The Young Church program for Term 2 2010 was all about Jonah and his amazing
attempt to avoid doing what God wanted him to. It is wonderful how God gave
him another chance to follow His instructions and warn the people of Nineveh
of God's wrath if they did not turn from their wicked ways back to Him.
The children learnt more about the Bible story and then practiced the songs of
the musical Jonah Man Jazz. A short drama was written which joined the songs
together and gave more insight into the story for the audience and the
performers. While the main characters learnt their parts the rest of the
children worked on the backdrops with a team of helpers. The final
presentation to the church congregation was a lot of fun with children
taking the roles of sailors and the people of Nineveh. The preschool
children were also part of the performance as they sang a fishy song while
Jonah languished in the enormous fish.
The tale of Jonah is a great reminder of God's patience and love for His people and the way He supports us to turn away from the wrong way and get back on track.
A DVD of the show is now a permanent reminder of the wonderful performance of the children involved. It was great to have so many supporters and workers to help the children
present such a fun show.
